Principal's Message….

Welcome to the 2018-19 school year! I hope you enjoyed a summer vacation filled with fun and exciting memories. We are delighted to welcome students, parents, and staff back to a new school year full of learning and growing.

The Collins School staff works hard to deliver outstanding educational programs that support student academic, artistic, and social-emotional growth. During their time with us, our students will grow in their understanding of the academic disciplines of Reading/Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies, as well as in Health & Wellness, Technology and Literacy, and the Arts.

In addition to academics, at Collins we strive to address the whole child and ensure every student comes to school ready and able to learn through offering supportive counseling programs such as our teacher mentors and the new M.I.S.T. initiative through our partnership with the Maximilian Foundation.

Now for a just few housekeeping items:

  • Please be reminded that our school cafeteria does have breakfast and lunches available to all students for purchase. Funds can be directly added to your students account via the parent portal.
  • When visiting the school during school hours please expect to show identification and to be asked the purpose of your visit. This is part of our security protocol at all BSD sites.
  • Collins opens our doors promptly at 8:40 am. Please do not drop off students early unless they are enrolled in the before-care/after-care program as they will be unsupervised.
  • Also, please remember to send in notes for absences, dismissal changes, and special needs. Email is not preferable especially with regard to time sensitive requests.

Finally, we have many exciting events scheduled for this year.  Please remember to check our website and district calendar for all of the latest information concerning the Collins School.

As always, thank you for your support and commitment to your children’s education.

 Your Principal,

Patrick Magee

Attendance Intervention

Parent(s) or legal guardian(s) must call the school regarding student absence. Based on daily attendance, school officials will attempt to notify parent(s) or legal guardian(s) if a child is absent without explanation from parent(s) or legal guardian(s). Collins: 1-609-698-5832

When a student reaches the following number of days absent, these actions will take place:

Five Days

Parents receive a letter explaining attendance policy guidelines and return a signed acknowledgement. Parent conferences may be held. If parents do not respond to the first letter, a second letter will be sent via Certified Mail.

Ten Days

Parent in-school conference. Create Attendance Action Plan for improved attendance. If no improvement demonstrated, Principal may, at any time, make a referral to the Court Program Administrator of the NJ Administrative Office of the Courts.

Eighteen Days

Mandatory referral by Principal to the Court program for truancy and parents are informed that attendance will be a factor in promotion/retention.
