 Principal's Message….

At Collins, in December the holiday season was one to remember.

Early in the month, the Seahawk Chorus amazed students and parents with a selection of winter holiday songs to get everyone in a festive mood. The students also showcased their abilities on the drums and handbells to enhance their performance. Then we took the show on the road to perform at one of our local adult communities.

Later in the month, the Collins School PTA continued to brighten the holiday season by again hosting a holiday shop and pictures with Santa. Students enjoyed shopping for family members, crafts, games, holiday movies, and of course Mr. and Mrs. Claus.

Not to confuse a Claus with a Cause, the Collins School held our 3rd Annual Christmas in Camouflage. This special event was coordinated with the Barnegat VFW to collect holiday care packages for soldiers serving away from home this holiday season. Finally, just before students went on break the second-grade classes performed their annual Holiday Show for both parents and students.

After all of our seasonal events, the holiday spirit was evident in both students and staff, or maybe it was just the sugar from all those class parties. Either way, it was the most wonderful time of the year! #SoaringSeahawks

WELCOME TO OUR 7 NEW PRE-K CLASSES!

CSCS Pre-School begins at: 9:30 and ends at: 3:30

Drop off and pick up procedures are:

All arrivals and dismissals for Pre-K Before Care/After Care and the regular school day (9:20-9:30 am & 3:30-3:35 pm) will take place at the Collins School’s side entrance closest to the BOE building.

Parents should park in the lot near the Collins School sign and escort their student via the crosswalk to the side entrance with the awning, where teachers will meet them.

The teacher-parent handoff at dismissal will take place at the side awning entrance. If your family has older siblings in the Collins School, please make us aware and we will have them dismissed at the side door with their Pre-K sibling.

Late Arrival/Early Dismissal:

All late arrivals and early dismissals will be facilitated through the building’s main office. When arriving late or picking-up early, please expect to show photo identification, give your student's name, and the teacher’s name. If someone other than the student's parent or guardian will be picking up please send in a note with their name, date, and time of pick-up.

We ask that after your child is settled-in, that you say your good-byes quickly. We understand that the first few weeks of January may be a little harder to make the separation, but there are a few things you can do to help ease the transition.

  1. Develop a routine that works for you and your child.
  2. Always say good-bye and communicate with them when you’ll be back.
  3. Reinforce that you support and feel comfortable with them being here.

Attendance Intervention

Parent(s) or legal guardian(s) must call the school regarding student absence. Based on daily attendance, school officials will attempt to notify parent(s) or legal guardian(s) if a child is absent without explanation from parent(s) or legal guardian(s). Collins: 1-609-698-5832

When a student reaches the following number of days absent, these actions will take place:

Five Days

Parents receive a letter explaining attendance policy guidelines and return a signed acknowledgement. Parent conferences may be held. If parents do not respond to the first letter, a second letter will be sent via Certified Mail.

Ten Days

Parent in-school conference. Create Attendance Action Plan for improved attendance. If no improvement demonstrated, Principal may, at any time, make a referral to the Court Program Administrator of the NJ Administrative Office of the Courts.

Eighteen Days

Mandatory referral by Principal to the Court program for truancy and parents are informed that attendance will be a factor in promotion/retention.
