Principal's Message….

Welcome to 2018!  Winter Break is now behind us, and we are back to our regular school schedule and routines.

Outside the temperatures have definitely dropped, and we would remind parents to send students dressed appropriately for the bus stop and outdoor play. Warm coats, hats, and gloves are encouraged for those brisk days.

Speaking of cold...we are now well into the cold and flu season. This time of year can be difficult on student attendance. The best ways to keep our students healthy, are to encourage hand washing, good sleeping habits, exercise, and good nutrition.

This is also the time of year we see an increase in the number of attendance letters being sent home. If you should receive a letter indicating your student has been absent for 5,10, or 18 days, these letters are required to be sent home by BOE Policy. We are required to send them even if you have provided documentation such as a doctor's note. If you have any questions about your student's attendance please call the office so we may assist you.

In closing, the transition from the end of the second marking period to the beginning of the third again provides an opportunity to reflect on academic growth, strengths, and weaknesses. As always, should you have any questions on the academic progress of your student please contact his/her teacher with your concerns.

 Your Principal,

Patrick Magee

Attendance Intervention

Parent(s) or legal guardian(s) must call the school regarding student absence. Based on daily attendance, school officials will attempt to notify parent(s) or legal guardian(s) if a child is absent without explanation from parent(s) or legal guardian(s). Collins: 1-609-698-5832

When a student reaches the following number of days absent, these actions will take place:

Five Days

Parents receive a letter explaining attendance policy guidelines and return a signed acknowledgement. Parent conferences may be held. If parents do not respond to the first letter, a second letter will be sent via Certified Mail.

Ten Days

Parent in-school conference. Create Attendance Action Plan for improved attendance. If no improvement demonstrated, Principal may, at any time, make a referral to the Court Program Administrator of the NJ Administrative Office of the Courts.

Eighteen Days

Mandatory referral by Principal to the Court program for truancy and parents are informed that attendance will be a factor in promotion/retention.
