Dune Grass Planting
LBI & Lighthouse

On October 18, 2017, the LIT's arrived on 29th Street in Barnegat Light, NJ. The weather was perfect and everyone was excited to get started on the project. Before students began planting, they learned about American Beachgrass (Ammophila breviligulata) and it's function in the foredunes.  Beachgrass is the dunes first line of defense against dune destabilization, sand and wind erosion. Before the students began, proper planting technique was modeled and discussed. Check out the photos below to see our work.

The project was complete and everyone was famished. Lunches were eaten at the Barnegat Lighthouse State Park and the Lighthouse was open to climb. The day was finished off by beachcombing down by the Barnegat Light Inlet.

Kids Gov

On April 20, 2018, the Leaders in Training headed to our state capitol, Trenton, to visit the State House. The students participated in the Make a Law program and took a tour of the State House, General Assembly and Senate.

During the Make A Bill program, the Leaders in Training actively participated in the legislative steps it takes to write, sponsor, and amend a bill. Next, they debated the bill, made more amendments and passed or vetoed the bill so that it could become a law.
Once the program was complete the students were able to visit the General Assembly and Senate to observe where all of these negotiations take place in Trenton. Check out the pictures below of our awesome adventure to the states capitol.
