Principal's Message….

Fall is an exciting season with many exciting activities and opportunities for our students and families. Already our students have attended field trips to the Tuckerton Seaport, Jenkinson’s Aquarium, and the Monmouth County Parks System. Things really heat-up for students reviewing fire safety with firefighters, as the Barnegat Fire Department makes their annual visit to the Collins School. Students enjoy a spook-tacular holiday season as pumpkins and skeletons fill the hallways. Costume parades and class parties add to the festive atmosphere.

While student activities heat-up, the weather noticeably cools-down. Student recess and play is an important part of the school day. As the temperatures cool, we would remind parents to send students dressed appropriately for outdoor play. Warm coats, hats, and gloves are encouraged for those brisk fall days.

As the holiday season approaches, so does cold and flu season. This time of year can be difficult on student attendance. The best ways to keep our students healthy is to encourage hand washing, getting good sleep, exercise, and good nutrition.

In closing, the transition from the end of the first marking period to the beginning of the second provides an opportunity to reflect on academic growth, strengths, and weaknesses. CSCS Parent Conferences, November 27th-30th, offers parents and teachers time to collaborate on ensuring our students’ academic success. We look forward to seeing each and every parent.

 Your Principal,

Patrick Magee

Attendance Intervention

Parent(s) or legal guardian(s) must call the school regarding student absence. Based on daily attendance, school officials will attempt to notify parent(s) or legal guardian(s) if a child is absent without explanation from parent(s) or legal guardian(s). Collins: 1-609-698-5832

When a student reaches the following number of days absent, these actions will take place:

Five Days

Parents receive a letter explaining attendance policy guidelines and return a signed acknowledgement. Parent conferences may be held. If parents do not respond to the first letter, a second letter will be sent via Certified Mail.

Ten Days

Parent in-school conference. Create Attendance Action Plan for improved attendance. If no improvement demonstrated, Principal may, at any time, make a referral to the Court Program Administrator of the NJ Administrative Office of the Courts.

Eighteen Days

Mandatory referral by Principal to the Court program for truancy and parents are informed that attendance will be a factor in promotion/retention.
